จากการเลื่อนวางจำหน่ายรอบล่าสุดของ Cyberpunk 2077 เป็นวันที่ 10 ธันวาคม Geoff Keighley ผู้จัดงาน The Game Awards เลยระบุว่าเกมนี้จะต้องไปเข้าชิงตำแหน่ง Game of the Year ในปีหน้าแทน
เหตุการณ์นี้คล้าย ๆ กับ Super Smash Bro. ที่ขาย 7 ธันวาคม 2018 และได้เข้าชิง Game of the Year ในปี 2019 แทน ขณะที่งานในปีนี้จะจัดขึ้นวันที่ 10 ธันวาคมวันเดียวกับที่ Cyberpunk 2077 วางจำหน่าย (ถ้าไม่เลื่อนอีก)
